10TH AMENDMENT?

WHAT'S THAT?

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

States Rights....Federalism.....etc.

Has everyone forgotten that it was the states that created the federal government and not the other way around? Has everyone forgotten that before FDR the federal government was tiny compared to state governments? Has everyone forgotten that Obama is not a king and not a dictator (yet)?

Not everyone..............PERRY

I do not have a problem with conservatives opposing liberal heathcare proposals. I note though that the article says that Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured people of all the states, and Perry has put up no plan to deal with that problem.

This is a legitimate policy debate and will be decided within our democratic system, as earlier disputes were. Conservatives opposed Social Security. They lost. That's how America works. May the side with the better proposals and the most votes win.

None of this makes Obama a dictator or a potential dictator. To quote one of my favorite lines from a movie: "Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here."

I will give some credit to The Aurora. At least you're not promoting the birther nonsense.

You ever stop to think about what number of uninsured in this country and Texas are illegals? Its not a small amount. The 50 million thrown around by libs is a red herring or more accurately a lie. Most of that number are young, illegal and upper middle class. Certainly not a crisis or reason to overhaul the best medical system in the world. Its not about medical care, its not about cost and it sure the hell aint about insuring the uninsured its about control. Period.

why would someone who was "upper middle class" not have health insurance?

Maybe upper middle class isnt the right word, but the fact is that appx 1/5 of the 47 million number dems throw out as being uninsured make over 75k a year. To answer your question I dont know why they wouldnt, could be any number of reasons.

maybe they work for small businesses that don't offer health insurance. maybe they are supporting a large family and, even though either the "breadwinner" or the "breadwinners" make a combined salary of $75K or more, they have four kids and can barely afford their rent or mortgage and food, never mind health insurance. maybe they make $75K per year but one or more family members have pre-existing conditions that make insurance too expensive (or impossible) go get in the first place. maybe their insurance companies dropped them when they found out they had heart disease or cancer or diabetes.

these are the "in betweeners" (my term, don't know if anybody else sees it that way) that i mentioned in a past post. the one's who you WOULD THINK would be able to afford health care, but simply cannot due to any number of reasons.

this health care issue is very complex. but, unlike global warming, everyone (i would like to think) is pretty much in agreement that SOMETHING has to be done. what that IS, of course, is subject the ebbs and flows of politics and the (in our current case) the constant ebbing of the money to back it. clearly, there's not much flowing going on (or coming in).

As far as those any number of reasons... my guess is that the majority of those "in betweeners" that your heart goes out for have 2 cars, a 50in plasma tv in the living room a 30 in the bedroom and vacation at Disney every year.

Whatever it is, its not a reason to revamp the best medical healthcare system in the world.

You must understand that your reasons and the Obama's are two remotely different things. You want to help and I understand that, they want control. More people will die under Obama care than the current system. So. whether your heart is in the right place, your support for leadership knowing full well that their agenda is not the same as yours makes me question your intellect, morality, and yes patriotism.

i'm just not as cynical as you are donkeyhue. you think that am as tunnel visioned as the rhino (and occasionally yourself), but i'm not. once again, i have to say that i (like most americans) absolutely do not "endorse" a government take-over of health care. i am taking a wait and see what they come up with approach.

to say that this system is "the best medical healthcare system in the world" is correct in many respects. but the reality is that it is failing many, many people and by failing so many people, it it is overburdening the system to the point of breaking.

to deny THAT is to make me question YOUR intellect, morality and, yes, even your patriotism.

i think also, since what i gather from what you have said about yourselves, that you don't know how struggling families actually work function day to day, week to week. mccain said it (and was criticized for it) and biden said it as well.

famlies DO in fact sit down on the dinner table at the end of the month and figure out how to steal from peter to pay paul. which credit cards to be late on and which ones to pay the minimum payment on (quite often, those credit cards are covering medical expenses). they cut coupons and they go to Sam's Club, Price Chopper's and BJ's and dollar stores. if they have two cars it's because both parents have jobs.

i'm coming to the conclusion that you two, despite your claims to "growing up poor" and "fatherless", have turned into elitists and snobs. you think you are the only guys who pulled yourselves up by your bootstraps? you think that gives you the right to lecture others with less promising futures?

no, it does not.

I think it does. I grew up in a poor environment. In fact, I was on my own at 17. I made my life better by working hard and making decisions to improve my life. Most of these folks who sit down at the dinner table to discuss which credit cards to pay have succumb to a materialistic way of life. They over extend themselves often not caring for the welfare of the family but instead they soothe their overwhelming desire to satisfy their ego or social status. Lay off the booze, get a smaller home and stop having kids you can't afford. Cut up the credit cards and make cabbage and potatoes for diner. If you don't like that life, get off you ass to change it. Don't run up credit card bills for big dinners and fancy cars. Live within your means or make decisions to change it for the better. They have the most important thing going for them already, they live in America where it CAN actually happen.
