Paying Attention?

Obama now has a super majority in congress so to all of you who thought cap and tax was a dead issue in the senate think again. For those of us who hoped socialized medicine wouldn't make it....not good. Finally, and most dangerous in my opinion. When Obama gives citizenship to the 20 million plus illegal aliens and has his cronies at ACORN (who are getting BILLIONS from the stimulus spending) organize these people to vote......what can stop him? Who's to say he won't try to make a change to the constitution so he can be a dictator for life? He admires or at least supports the other dictators around the world be it in Iran, Venezuela, or HONDURAS

OK, first the "billions for Acorn" thing is a Fox News/Republican talking point. In other words, it's propaganda aka a lie. See:

I know you disagree with Obama's policies and that's OK. But let me give you some good advice, that I learned the hard way. During the Bush years a lot of us leftists thought that Bush might suspend the elections and become a dictator. That didn't happen and it will not happen during Obama either. There will be an election in 2012 and another one in 2016.

And I wouldn't worry too much about the 60 votes. Democrats are not Republicans. Did you ever notice that when the Republicans controlled Congess but didn't have 60 votes the Dems could never stop them from doing anything? And yet when the Dems took control but didn't have 60 votes the Republicans could stop them from doing much of anything. Now, theoretically the Dems can do whatever they want, but in practice it won't happen. Too many spineless Dems. Really the Dems need to be a bit more like the Republicans in some ways.

Anyway maybe cap and trade will work. They did something like that for acid rain. Conseratives like cap and trade then as I recall because it utilizes market forces. I mean I know you don't believe in global warming, but just maybe you're wrong.

Personally though I hope that Obama and the 60 Democrats will force their agenda down the Republicans throat. I wish they would repeal the Patriot Act and the Military Commisions Act and the Bush tax cuts. But I'm used to being disappointed. I'm a Democrat.

what's the goal?

Do you think taxes can cool the earth? really?

please tell me you're not that dumb. please tell me you realize that this bill has nothing to do with "climate change".

I know i always call you stupid but that's mostly just to piss you off. I don't want to believe that you really are that dense.

If you tell me you believe in cap and tax because you want more government control over the lives of the average human being i will think you're an asshole but at least i can talk to you.

If you tell me you actually believe that taxes will cool the earth then i will have to treat you like an actual retarded person. just be nice nice and have pity.

Keep in mind that I do accept the reality of anthropogenic global warming. I know you don't but I do. Therefore I conclude we need to begin to reduce C02. Cap and trade actually isn't a tax, it limits C02. Companies that go over their C02 limits can purchase "credits" from companies that are under. That's my understanding of the concept, I admit I'm not an expert.

In the 1990's a cap and trade system succeeded in reducing sulphur dioxide emissions that contributed to acid rain. It wasn't a "tax" on sulphur dioxide. Do companies have a right to pollute the environment with sulphur dioxide? Obviously not and it's a legitimate use of government to put a stop to it. Cap and trade was a sucessful attempt to use market forces to solve the problem. And it worked.

I've been struggling for months to understand your position on global warming. The sticking point for me was how could you be so sure that your minority of skeptical scientists, who never seem to do actual research or to publish, were right and my majority of scientists actually working in the field were wrong. Yesterday you finally explained it to me and I thank you for that. You apparently think it's all part of some liberal/statist plot, not serious science aimed at a real problem. You think the global warming science is not just wrong but a deliberate hoax. I think you're wrong.

By the way, the alternative to cap and trade is simply to require companies to reduce C02 emissions. If cap and trade doesn't work that's the next step.

So once again i'm left with gary not realizing what a tax is, AND not realizing that taxes,or legislation of any kind, can't cool the earth.

Shit gary still thinks it's called global warming even though his own peeps have already switched it to "climate change" since they know that the earth is actually cooling.

good for you gary. you're getting around on your own and everything? You can read and stuff? terrific.

I suppose that a "tax" on sulphur dioxide couldn't reduce sulphur dioxide and reduce acid rain. Oh, wait a minute, it did. Call it a tax if you like, I don't care but any company that reduces C02doesn't have to buy any credits.

The Earth is not cooling. Another word of advice: if it's on Drudge and Fox News, it's probably not true. If Rush says it, it's almost certainly not true.

ok champ. that's terrific.

thanks for your help buddy.
