Partisan politics aside.
I think it should go without saying that at the very least this country should expect some amount of honesty and competency from our politicians.
When they display neither, they gots to go.
Case in point, Nancy Pelosi.
She's either lying about what she knew about our interrogation techniques or displayed a level of incompetency unbecoming of a speaker by not knowing.
Either way, she's proven herself unfit to lead.

Yeah, but Pelosi is . . . well, you know ...
OK you may be right. There had to be a first time.
By the way, since you think all liberals are hypocrites, you should really read this in the venerable liberal magazine "The Nation".

more importantly, anyone who says that Bush administration officials should be prosecuted for war crimes then must also say Pelosi and any other member of congress who was briefed on this stuff should also be prosecuted.
If indeed waterboarding is torture then Pelosi and her ilk are just as responsible. they knew what was going on and approved it.
So in other words, if you're not willing to go after EVERYONE who knew about it then shut the fuck up because you don't actually give a shit, you're just playing politics.
For that matter I say we exhume the bodies of Truman and FDR while were at it and hang their rotting corpses in effigy for their "war crimes"
Oh wait they were dems, nevermind.
Speaking of Truman....
Is there any doubt that Jon Stewart had no clue about Harry's party affiliation when he called him a war criminal?
And only changed his tune when his handlers/script writers informed him of this little factoid.
That being said I appreciate his admission of stupidity but can't have ANY respect for someone that would be so callow flippant and unprincipled to flip flip within the span of 24 hours on something like the detonation of two atom bombs on a populace.
I've never said that anyone should be prosecuted for war crimes, but let me point out that anyone in Congress who knew about this, was not in a position to say anything about it publically.
i didn't say it was you gary. but maybe your buddy on countdown to no ratings should shut up.
besides which, if i was a member of congress and was told that we were doing something that i considered to be torture i would have it stopped or make it public to have it stopped. the TRUTH is that waterboarding is NOT torture and that is why pelosi had no problem with it, OR, she thinks it is torture but had no problem with it. Either way she's a piece of garbage.
My point was that members of Congress were bound by official secrecy. I do wish though that some of them had gone public, consequences be damned. As for your statement that "the TRUTH is that waterboarding is NOT torture", surely that is a matter of opinion. Many legal scholars, the Attorney General, and the International Red Cross disagree with you. And of course waterboarding is not the only factor at issue. Some prisoners were beaten to death, and surely that is torture.
Let me propose a thought experiment. We get some trained interrogators to waterboard you, until you admit it's torture. How many seconds do you think you would be able to hold out?
I could hold out longer than you that's for sure. You're obviously a pussy so it wouldn't be that tough.
Anyway, the CURRENT attorney general says its torture but what the fuck does he know? All of a sudden if you win a popularity contest you know how to run the banking industry, insurance industry, auto industry, and energy industry? Your political appointees are now the end all be all? The international red cross?
you're stupid and i'm done with you.
No you're stupid! At least, you missed the point, which was that waterboarding = torture is a matter of opinion, not "THE TRUTH" as you put it. Why is it that you wingnuts are always 100% sure that you are 100% right 100% of the time?
Since when did we start prosecuting or threatening prosecution based on opinion. This is really just getting out of hand.
No one's going to be prosecuted.
Yeah no shit. Dems are pussies.
Bush is retired his approval rating sucks you have White House Congress and media and he still wins, no wonder you guys hate him so much... you cant beat him. Never could. Y'all his bitches.
no one's going to be prosecuted because Pelosi and others would go down with them. HOWEVER the President and his henchmen have already proposed disbarring the lawyers who wrote the OPINIONS on waterboarding. They want to ruin their careers and lives because they disagree!
You don't have a problem with that gary? Of course not because like we've been saying all along with you and your ilk, you're phony sycophants and hypocrites. You would cry for soviet spies who were exposed by a great patriot and even make his name synonymous with witchhunts but you're silent when truly innocent men are having their lives ruined because their opinion is different from yours.
First: innocent until proven guilty. I would support a Bar Association investigation of the authors of the memos. They legal "opinions" of the memos are so transparently fraudulent and obviously designed to justify torture that disbarring the attorneys should be considered by the Bar. There were some very good legal memos at the time, by the way. These were the memos by the military attorneys. These memos were disregarded because the Bush adminstration was not interested in opposing opinions. The military lawyers, the JAGs and others, were the true heroes. Bush should have listened to them.
As for "soviet spies who were exposed by a great patriot." I can't imagine who you mean. Certainly not Joseph McCarthy, who never exposed a single soviet spy. Not one. I would recommend a very good book on McCarthy, praised by Patrick Buchanan, titled "A Conspiracy So Immense." Don't recall the authors name offhand, but you could find it at Amazon.
