No Harm in a Handshake

I'm sure the fact that the President of the United States of America shook hands with a despot had nothing to do with the fact that his most prominent political opponent just fled from his country............actually, I'm not so sure of that at all. If the United States isn't going to stand up to him, and in fact will embrace a despot who imprisons his political enemies then what chance does anyone have?

I hate to always be the drunk guy, but once again this goes back to bar room wisdom, and weve spoke about this before and have had similiar experiences.

A guy bumps into you in a crowded bar and catches attitude, you offer your hand in apology... a fight ensues.

A guy bumps into you in a crowded bar and catches attitude, you tell him to fuck off and hit the bricks.... he walks away.

Thats about 90% true, but in the event that a fight ensues after the second scenario you are in a position of strength.

Obama has us in a position of weakness.

Levin was dead on tonight in that if Obama was president the last eight years, LA wouldve been attacked. Waterboarding works, liberals should apologize, and Hollywood should thank President George W Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for protecting them.

Waterboarding is a very efficient way of eliciting a confession (to anything.) Like all torture it is not a very efficient way of eliciting good information. Take the case of Sheik al-Libi. The FBI got some good info from him. Then he was turned over to the CIA for torture. He provided info about Saddam's links to al Qaeda biological and chemical weapon programs. Colin Powell cited this info to the United Nations. The info turned out to be fabricated and had to be retracted. He made it up to make the torture stop.

As for Chavez, he is the elected President of Venezuela. He does seem to have definite authoritarian and demagogic qualities. Bush cozied up to the President of Uzbekistan, one of the worst dictators on the planet. We sent some prisoners there because in Uzbekistan they know how to torture.

Bush and Cheney were a disgrace to this great country. Torture is illegal, immoral, and counter-productive. What's the upside?

Los Angeles still standing not good enough for you?

I see your point, whats the upside.

Maybe you should read the memos, waterboarding wasnt used to elicit confessions, it was used to save lives and it worked. Get on your knees and thank god for Bush and Cheney.
