Nevermind The Bailouts, Here's The Tax Pistols

Obama on Taxes and Traffic: Ever Get the Feeling You've Been Cheated? Or, can we start talking about Obama's vision deficit?
Nick Gillespie April 16, 2009, 11:35am

Mega-props to our President Obama for yesterday's speechifying about simplifying and fair-izing the Infernal Revenue Service and all that.

Except for one small nitpicky thing: He's full of shit on this topic. How precisely is he or his Slugger's Row of policy mavens (you know, the idjits who can't even use Turbo Tax) gonna make the income tax more fair? As it stands, the top 1 percent of filers pay 40 percent of all income taxes; the top 5 percent pay 60 percent; and the top 10 percent pay fully 70 percent of all income taxes. The bottom 50 percent (5-0, Dano!) pay a whopping 3 percent of all income tax.

Kind sir, prithee, what the hell are you going to do to remedy this situation? You promise "tax cuts to the Americans who need them." Hey pal, I just shelled out tens of thousands of dollars so Citigroup can keep its fucking name on the 21st century's answer to Shea Stadium. Where in the name of Ray Sadecki and Bob Apodaca is my bailout? cont'd

Perhaps it has not occurred to you that the top 1% own about 40% of the wealth of this nation. Obama cut taxes for most Americans, you should be supporing him. I thought tax cuts were good? But "tax cuts" was always code for cutting taxes on the wealthiest, that is the Republican base.

The Republicans problem politically is that most americans, while they may not understand economics, will notice that there is more money in their pay check.

The Democrats problem politically is that all Americans, while they may not understand economics, understand that you dont spend your way out of debt.

They understand that giving "tax cuts" to people that dont pay taxes is not a rebate it's welfare.

They understand that there are no bailouts for the average American, only for the corporations in the politicians pockets.

They understand that health care, education, and alternative energy are not the solution for the economic crisis.

... and they dont like it one bit as witnessed by the hundreds of thousands protesting at the Tea Parties.

Which will soon become the democrat's problem.

I certainly applaud anytime the govt sends back money earned to its taxpayers (I prefer reducution in rates not rebates) but not when its wealth redistribution like the Make Work Pay "cut". People that dont pay taxes do not deserve tax cuts PERIOD. People that pay the most do. I know you hate the rich but its fair, its moral and its right.

I get free drinks and served ahead of others at the pub because I tip well and drink like a fish. I am a good customer. Ive earned that treatment.

The rich in this country are our best customers not the homeless dude that takes a dump on the bathroom floor. Youre the bitter guy at the end of the bar complaining about why you cant get a drink and scolding the bartender for kicking the homeless dude out when the fact is you are a bad customer and the pile on the floor is the homeless guys fault.

The average working American does pay taxes and did get a tax cut under Obama.

I assume the "hundreds of thousands" of teabaggers are among the 25% who do not approve of Obama's performance as President.

Average or median American? Big difference as almost half DO NOT PAY federal income tax and yet still received a "tax cut" aka welfare. About 60 bil year to date without putting in 1 penny.

Keep pooh poohing the Tea Parties, these werent professional events like the ACORN or WWP sponsored and bussed in liberal rallies despite your spin. There are hundreds of "protests" in NYC every year yet just about every person I spoke to it was their first event. Might even be their last event. These are people with lives and jobs and families. They are the forgotten man, and wanted to remind the politicians they are here. It wasnt seismic or revolutionary but it meant something so much more than your juvenille ball jokes. People are pissed. People are pissed fucking off at the Federal governemt stealing our money. Theyre stealing 12,000,000,000,000 (thats tril) of our money that we dont even have and people are pissed of about it and the politicians left and right can ignore that at their own peril.

Was it only the 25% that disapprove of Obama? Maybe. My guess it was more of the 75% that disapprove of the Dem Congress. Maybe both.

I would like to make a small correction to my last comment. I copied and pasted your snarky response and have concluded that your tone was all wrong.

The dems problem is that they think that Americans dont understand economics. They do. Be afraid.

Going back to my bar anology. I get a free round during a night out, thats great. It doesnt change the fact that theres a $500 tab that has to be paid at the end of the night. Enjoy your free drink on while it lasts. Theres gonna be a 12 trillion dollar bill at this redistributive insanity and you can be certain that Americans understand that and the ensuing hangover the morning after.

first of all, this guy is funny. I'm searching out nick gillespie from now on. He's good.

secondly, the tea party i went to was my first protest ever. If there's more on July 4th I'm going again. I didn't have a great time, and to be honest i was kind of bored but it's important.

As to the comment by stupid that the top 1% own 40% of the wealth i would say...what's your point? they EARNED IT. why should they be penalized for the fact that lazy people like stupid are unemployed? In fact it's the top 1% that will end up giving stupid his next job.

unless they can't afford to hire him because they're being penalized for being too successful.

Well I'm average and I paid federal income taxes last year. Also let's not forget payroll taxes, sales taxes, and $4 to cross the frickin' bridge.

As for the Tea Parties, they were partly grass roots and partly astroturf but I am all in favor of Americans getting out in the streets and protesting their government.

Rhino I must comment on one thing you said: "As to the comment by stupid that the top 1% own 40% of the wealth i would say...what's your point? they EARNED IT. "

My point? Donkey was complaining that the top 1% paid 40% of the taxes. I pointed out they have 40% of the money. So paying 40% of taxes is reasonable. The connection doesn't seem stupid to me.

Did no such thing. You just dont know how to read. You see key words like taxes and Obama and you just regurgitate your pre-planned rant. You lack original thought and basic common sense.

Maybe you should read the article again. Print it out and use a highlighter if you need.

This guy is dead on and you lack the intellect to rebut it so you copy and paste the same tired argument over and over again.

book reco for gary and anyone else who thinks it should be ok to tax the "rich"

"The Millionaire Next Door"

I don't remember who wrote it. I read it probably a decade ago but i remember it. It's a tale of people who worked hard, saved, lived a frugal lifestyle and acquired wealth.

Most "rich" people didn't get there by luck or inheritance. They got there because they earned it.

If the richest 1% have 40% of the money, why shouldn't they pay 40% of the taxes? Still waiting for an answer.
