Besides the media bias, the thing that troubles me most about the following story is that it demonstrates a complete lack of any rudimentary knowledge of both World Wars, the last one in particular. This is not some obscure country. This is not a slip or a gaffe, its ambivalence to world history. --Donk.
It's almost too impossible to believe: the greatest President that has ever lived, Barack Obama, actually made a mistake while answering a question. Now, this was not an error in judgment: it was what you'd call a "gaffe." And as you know, a "gaffe" is only worth reporting if it's done by a Republican or an old white guy. Sorry, same thing.
It happened during a news conference in Strasbourg, France , when the Messiah was responding to a reporter from a place called Austria. In his struggle to answer, the One said, "There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian -- wheeling and dealing ..." link

Ignoring the main point of your post, because it is trivial, you are certainly on to something with your equation of Republican = "old white guy." Which is a real problem for Republicans as the demography is changing and old white guys are dying off. I read recently that the average age of talk radio listeners (mostly conservatives) is 67. The Republican Party is in real danger of becoming even more of a minority party politically. Also, the number of white evangelicals, although still considerable, is shrinking. Fundamentalists may, as they have in the past, withdraw from politics. They lost on abortion and pornography and seem to be losing even on gay marriage. What is the future of conservatism? I would be interested in your thoughts.
I stopped reading at trivial.
After eight years of questioning Bushs' intelligence, its nice to see you're consistent and have no problem with Obama being half-retarded.
Its starting to make sense why the smartest President ever won't release his grades.
You stopped reading at trivial? I think the rest of my comment deals with more important matters than "gaffe of the day". Namely the future of conservatism.
And I asked for your opinion. Because, you know, I respect it so much.
As for gaffes, Bush's verbal idiocies were charming, really.
That's the point. It is a "gaffe of the day" everyday with this guy. American media only one not getting it.
And don't worry bout the future of conservatives. Your help or opinion isn't needed. We got it covered.
I was asking YOUR opinion. Where do you see conservatism going?
Unlike the NY Times, I am not in the habit of giving out our playbook to the enemy, and I do consider you the enemy. An enemy of not only my political ideology but an enemy of everything that once made this nation great.
I will say this without going into specifics. I am extremely optimistic about the outlook of conservatism in America. If McCain had been elected I fear it would have died on the spot but in his defeat he gave us Sarah Palin. Mock her and destroy her personally but she is America. She is the America that fought for our freedom and later the freedom of others. She is the America that battled the elements and frontier to create the most free, the most innovative, the most caring, the most prosperous, and most righteous nation to ever grace this planet.
Pissants such as yourself can try and destroy the woman, but you can not destroy what she awoke in so many Americans. 59 million did not vote for McCain they voted for Palin and the America she represents.
You won one election not the hearts and soul of this nation. For fucks sake let's be honest, you could have beat McCain. It was time. It happens.
Once again, I am extremely optimistic and proud to belong to a party where dissent and debate is even a discussion as opposed to the echo chamber that is the dem party where differening views are not tolerated.
I do not consider you the enemy. I consider you a patriot who loves his country (and just happens to be wrong about everything). Although you do at times have the very unamerican habit of questioning the patriotism of others.
If Sarah Palin is the future of conservatism and the Republican Party you guys are in serious trouble. But good luck to her, Obama v. Palin in 2012. I look forward to it.
Thanks for your feedback though. I see tomorrow's "conservatism" as smaller and more paranoid and vicious. There must be a few honest and principled conservatives though (as opposed to the proto-fascists who seem to be taking over) although they are keeping a low profile.
I never thought this would happen but Im about to quote Brad Pitt (from True Romance)
Dont fucking condescend me man
Im no patriot, Im a citizen. Your Olbermann slash Hannity rhetoric is growing tiresome. Yes I love my country, more than you could possibly know. Your proto this and neo this is made for cable tv, not intelligent discussion.
Our Country is great yet it has failed us in so many ways, not the least is the two party system we now have. Our country is still great. There was a time not unlike a failed business, a party would die. You want that party to be the Republicans. Im here to tell it is the Democrats and the Republicans. They have failed us both. The Republicans are the only ones with any semblance of sanity left.
We can bicker about whos more corrupt. Argue black or white. There is no winner in those debates.
Your party is trying to change this country, our Country, yours and mine, into something it has never been before. Its wrong.
You want to worry about Dick Cheney in a ski mask robbing black folks and widows, Im concerned with the United States Constitution be re-written and ignored. Its not living and its not fucking breathing. It was the recorded word of men of principle. Men that you should thank when you wake, not scold or chastise. You would be well served to read not interpret it. Its important. I would bet my fucking life Obama never has. Bush is even money.
Call me neo call me proto your words are empty gun shells from an scratched off serial numbered pistol. I want America to think, not so much as I do but to think about what the fuck.
You are lost Gary and your placard repeating hyperbole has grown boresome. I appreciate that you are our only groupie but this blog was never about readers or commenters it was about a couple friends that were too cheap to spend on long distance. In short, Im done with you.
But you're the only conservative I know and I'm trying to understand how you think. And you're not as big an asshole as Rhino. I have long been a student of the Right and far-Right in America and I see some ominous signs. I'm talking Timothy McVeigh territory here. Remember how crazy the Right got under Clinton? I think it may get worse under Obama. The Right is getting smaller but crazier. William Buckley said once that he had spent half his career trying to get the nutjobs out of the conservative movement.
This didn't start with Obama or even with Clinton. The theme liberal=traitor, which even you have fallen into is dangerous. The next logical step is "traitors should be shot" and believe me some people are going there.
