A few members of Congress admitted that they didn't read the "stimulus" bill before sending it to the president. I'm sure MOST of them didn't read it. Did Obama read it before he signed it? I doubt it. So now we get the Omnibus Spending Bill. You think the Presdent read this one before he signed it?.....I don't think he did, and i don't think anyone on his staff did either.
If Bush had done this, the statists would have started calling him the "Dumbest President Ever"...Oh that's right they did call him that.
Obama Signs Law Banning Federal Embryo Research Two Days After Signing Executive Order to OK It
(CNSNews.com) - On Wednesday, only two days after he lifted President Bush’s executive order banning federal funding of stem cell research that requires the destruction of human embryos, President Barack Obama signed a law that explicilty bans federal funding of any "research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death."

This is hard to defend. I would certainly support repealing or amending Dickey-Wicker. As I understand it the law has not been interpreted as banning funding of embyronic stem cells themselves, but only of creating them in the first place. So a number of stem cell lines have been created with private funds and then research on those lines can be funded by the Federal government. Always a sticky wicket when people's religious views get mixed up with government.
Is it just religous views? I don't think so, but more to the point the guy didn't read it. This was supposed to be the smartest transition team ever and yet they can't find nominees for cabinet positions who actually pay taxes, they embarrass the president and the PM of Great Britian AND say it's because he has too much on his plate which made it worse. They have Camille Paglia basically calling them idiots, and now this.
Obama needs to get rid of Emanuel and see if Karl Rove will come out of retirement. I mean he's continuing all of Bush's policies anyway, he might as well have "The Architect" help him out with it.
Of course Bush didn't read bills either and no one in Congress read the Patriot Act. And every incoming administration has problems with appointees, taxes, their business deals, domestic help, etc. These are of no real importance historically. You might get into Harvard Law on Affirmative Action but you don't graduate based on affirmative action. Why the double standard? Bush got into Harvard or wherever as a legacy. He failed in business and was generally regarded as the slow one of the family. Not surprisingly he was a lousy President. (And most conservatives I know agree with that statement.)
As for the embryos: fuck 'em.
Even someone that agreed with Obama on this bill thinks he fucked it up. Badly.

well gary i don't have the double standard. YOU DO. Bush was a Yale man. His father was also a Yale man and maybe that's how he got in, but he didn't graduate because his father did. He didn't get better grades than John Kerry at Yale because his father did, and yet he's the dumb one, or the slow one. That must be a pretty fucking smart family.
Anyway, NO president has had the # of problems that this guy has had this early in the game. It speaks to his lack of executive experience and his bad judge of character. Finally, i would say that Bush DID read the bills, or at least was smart enough to make sure he knew what was in them because he NEVER had a fuckup like this. We KNOW that Obama didn't read this one, and we're pretty sure he didn't read the "stimulus" bill. So our new president has just spent over 1.2 TRILLION dollars and he can't even say he knows what he spent it on.
If he was your accountant you'd be suing him right now. Think about it.

Although its apparent that you have now become an apologist, scandals do matter. We are in the worst economic crisis since Jesus and The Moneychangers according to Obama and here we are with an empty Treasury Dept with a Bush man and tax cheat at the head. How can that not piss you off? Oh yeah, you have no principles...only party.
Regarding Bush being a failed business man, well its how you look at it I suppose. Certainly his wildcatting days didnt pan out but wildcatting by definition....

If Obama is so smart and was such a great lawyer why did only have 3700 billable hours (around 2000 being the yearly average) in four years law work? Looks like yer boy werent so hot in the private sector either.
... and we KNOW that Obama didnt read the Stimulus bill since it was sitting on his desk for four days while he was off galavanting in Colorado (and they have admitted no copy was sent to him)
There have been many comparisons of Obama to past Presidents before he even took office, but judging by his leadership so far its apparent he intends to lead like Andrew Johnson and "Swing around the circle" whenever he fucks up.
