Obama said repeatedly during the campaign that John McCains idea to tax health benefits would be "the largest middle class tax increase in history". This was one of the few areas where i agreed with him, and still do. I'm sure he realizes that it was true then, just as he knows it's true now. But how then do his supporters explain this......
Obama open to taxing workers' health benefits
With his own proposal facing resistance, president may reverse key campaign stance.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is signaling to Congress that the president might support taxing some employee health benefits, as several influential lawmakers and many economists favor, to help pay for an overhaul of the health care system.

I have carefully considered your prescription or solving our economic crisis, namely a combination of doing nothing, cutting taxes (for the rich, you always leave that part out) and deregulation. The good news is: it's not going to happen. Your side lost, and this is still, somewhat surprisingly, still a democracy.
Came across an interesting Cheney quote:
"Given the importance to the country ... of getting the economy back on track, it seems to me an administration does have an obligation to set priorities." "One of the tools that's most important to doing that is tax policy, and cutting taxes, especially for those who invest and create wealth and create jobs." (AKA the rich).
Conservatives always try to scare the electorate by saing the Democrats will raise taxes. The Dems usually reply to a complex statistical analysis showing that they are only talking about a small increase on the UPPER tax rates. This time Obama made it simple, saying over and over in the debates, that 90% of Americans would get a tax cut.
I don't think I've mentioned it but I got layed off my job some months back (during the Bush administration). I found out last week that I will receive an extra $100 a month in benefits thanks to the "stimulus package." Thanks Barack. Thanks Democrats. I"m going to spend the money and stimulate the economy. May we never have another Republican President or Congress in my lifetime. Or in my daughters.
Ummmmm.... maybe you didn't read the story. Obama believes that a tax on health benefits would be the largest tax increase on the MIDDLE CLASS in the history of the country. I agree.
I also agree with Cheney. I say cust taxes for the producers..aka the "rich".
Tell me Gary, since you've been laid off, how many POOR PEOPLE have you submitted your resume to? Or to put a fine point on it, you've NEVER been hired by a poor guy. You've never even been hired by a middle class guy unless you do menial labor like landscaping or construction. So good luck with that extra 100 bucks buddy.
I appreciate your honesty in admitting that you favor tax cuts FOR THE RICH. If that worked we would not be in this economic mess, because Bush did that already. It didn't work. I know you think tax cuts always work and tax cuts are the answer to everthing but you're a fucking idiot. Sorry. Tax cuts and deregualtion are not the answer. Besides, if we're going to cut taxes then the rich have had their turn. It's our turn now. Eight years of trickle up economics was enough,.
And perhaps it didn't occur to you, but rich people are already rich. I need that $100 more than they do and it will help me get by until I find another job.
Oh, and I know I won't win this argument here with you at the Aurora. But we won it nationally in the last election. Elections have consequences and so does corruption and incompetence, as the Republicans found out in the last few election years.
See Gary that is where you are dead wrong and the dems are being downright deceitful. You did not win the election on the policies you are implementing. If anything Obama ran away from it. If what has been passed was promised during the campign he wod not have won, even against a loser like McCain. He lied (like most polis) and his popularity is already suffering greatly as a result.
Look I'm against taxing health care benefits. It would have to be a damn good health care proposal for me to support taxing health care benefits. Obama is being criticized from the left. Guess he's not as "radical" as Hannity thought.
actually, he's MORE radical. And it's not even 2 months.
And as usual you avoided the truth. Tax the producers and you get less production.
Tax the job givers and you get less jobs.
Personally i believe the only fair tax is a flat tax, but then that's because IT'S ACTUALLY FAIR.
During the glory days of the US economy, when we had a thriving economy and middle-class, say in the 50s,the top tax rates were much higher than they are now. As your hero Reagan once said, "Facts are stupid things."
What is your point? Do you have one?
I don't understand how anyone can argue that a flat tax is not fair. Everyone pays the same %. The wealthy pay more in total dollars because they have more. What could be more fair.
I know we've never had it, and i know we never will but it's the ONLY fair tax.
I think it's fair for the wealthiest among us to pay more, a higher rate. You don't. A legitimate debate and let the voters decide.
Yes of course you do because you don't have any money. Like most people who don't have any money you're envious of those who do have it and so you believe in confiscatory taxes.
Of course the majority of people in this country are like yourself. Not willing to work hard enough to get ahead. So since you can't take care of your daughter you want my help.
I would rather you just asked gary. You tell me you can't feed your daughter on your own and you need my help, i'd be happy to do it.
You are really a scum-sucking piece of shit. I hope that you don't have children. I got layed off my job a few months back, like a lot of people these days. I've always worked and I'll find another job. My daughter is grown now and doing fine.
We've never had a flat tax, as you said. We've always had a progressive tax system. Hell, Adam Smith was in favor of a progressive tax system. You like a flat tax. A legitimate debate like I said. We just disagree. I think aflat tax would result in the poor paying more and the rich paying less. I don't think that's fair.
