I mean how stupid are the legislators in Oregon. They're going to raise the beer tax by 1900% on companies that brew in Oregon? Talk about cutting your own throat. Sure some die hards will pay extra, but won't most people just switch to Sam Adams or Bud or something?

Little known history.
Alexander Hamilton, as Secy of Treasury imposed a tax on hooch that was grossly unfair to small and local whiskey distillers. Americans took to arms (to match the guns used by tax collectors)in protest. President Washington personally led an army into Western PA to put down the rebellion.
They killed a few rebels (funny how they wouldve been called revolutionaries a few years earlier if the product being taxed were stamps/paper), but could not stop the rebelli...err revolution, as the tax went largely unpaid, unenforced, and unpopular.
It was repelled shorty thereafter by President TJ.
Moral of the story..
