I Think Im Breaking The First Rule Of Debate Club

Sometimes it a slows news day, sometimes its out of boredom, and other times its a subject matter thats important to one of us but whatever the reasoning behind it is, the Rhino and I will often go mano a mano like Rocky and Apollo in the game of debate. Were talking serious stuff here.

The score doesn't matter its all about the fight, but if the score did matter its clear that Id be overwhelmingly repeat overwhelmingly ahead and for that matter the scarce victories the Rhino has managed are almost always a result of some bullshit technicality of catching me incorrectly using words. Words? Phooey!

INCONCEIVABLE!!!

I will concede that there is no greater rapist but also lover of the English language than I, however I will go to my grave defending budge as a correct term for line-cutting and the pronunciation of creek as crick.

But, I'm not here to open old wounds or rehash the past, wait... is yesterday the past? Well then I guess I am.

With happy hour still an hour away we decided to kill some time and figure out once and for all who was the greater Seventies Suck Band.... Supertramp or Styx.

While readily conceding that Styx had greater commercial success and their accomplishment of four straight multi-platinum albums and top ten hits in three decades under four Presidential administrations is nothing short of spectacular and even more impressive was their absolutely genius and revolutionary use of the double clap... too much clap clap time on my hands. The likes of which I should mention we did not see again until Johnny Cougar's "Jack and Diane".

The fact remains that they are responsible for Mr. Roboto and for that they can not be forgiven, and points deducted for that travesty give Supertramp a Buster Douglas like upset (and another W for the Donk)

As I said Im not looking to rehash that debate, its over...Supertramp wins.

I am however here to bestow The Aurora's greatest honor on an individual ... The John Candy Award. For those unfamiliar, John Candy was the greatest comedian of our time. He could do it all and if he played baseball would be classified as a five tool player. He could hit for power and average, base run, field and throw. He excelled as a solo performer (Uncle Buck, Who's Harry Crumb?), ensemble player (Stripes, Spaceballs), and the well timed cameo (Gus Polinski of the Kenosha Kickers in Home Alone...very big in Sheboygan)

During the debate many names were thrown around as points and counterpoints but one name stood out among the many and I had the epiphany that he was in fact the John Candy of the proto-pop power ballad sweet sweet science of soul music. Im obviously talking about Michael McDonald whose stellar work with the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, as a solo performer, as well as his extensive duet work have earned him The Aurora's highest honor, so congratulations on that... at least he's got that going for him.

But now I gots to thinking...

Greatest Michael McDonald collaboration???

with Kenny Loggins on "This Is It" (make no mistake it about)

with Christopher "Jump Jump" Cross on "Ride Like The Wind" (take it to the corner of Mexico)

or the clear fan favorite...

with Patti LaBelle on "On My Own" (???)

A Letter to Larry

The Aurora, and the Donkey in particular, have been saying for years that the democrats hate black people. I'm not sure that is the correct assessment of their true feelings, but i can say that if you just look at the policies they promote it sure does seem like they are trying to keep the black man down.
The disturbing thing to me is that most black people seem to either not notice this, not believe it, or not care about it.

Well, here's a black man who has noticed.

Losers Are Whiners

If we have learned anything from the left, its that the ol' adage that "history is written by the winners" is not always true. Sometimes the incessant whinings of the losers are repeated loud and often enough that by sheer familiarity alone they become accepted as fact by the uninformed and easily led sheepish masses.

Ask one hundred people on the street and ninety nine percent will probably tell you that Vietnam was "Nixon's War" and never a mention of the goldenboy Kennedy sanctioned assassination of South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem that lit the powder keg.

Google McCarthyism and you'll find talk about reckless witch hunts for imaginary pinko boogeymen despite the fact that we now know that Sen. Joe McCarthy was right and that communist agents had infiltrated the highest levels of our government.

Or ask someone at a check cashing place on the first Tuesday of the month about FDR and they will tell you that he was the single greatest social reformer known to mankind and nothing about how his New Deal is almost solely responsible for the current sickened Welfare State that that we have become. (either that or they'll say it's a road)

Speaking of losers, that brings me to John Kerry and I will direct you to one of his more famous quotes during his testimony to Congress protesting the Vietnam War.

"They ... raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside."

Forget for a moment that we now know he was lying -- thanks to the Swiftboat Veterans, who now too find their name being villified -- that the people that relayed this story to him were lying, and just about that the entire Vietnam Veterans Against the War were lying... that's not my problem here. (not saying atrocities didnt exist, just saying these people were liars)

My problem is that someone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of Mongolian culture and Genghis Khan know that they hold livestock in the highest regard and that anyone with such an esteemed and pedigreed Ivy League education such as Kerry should know that Mongolians actually (and surprisingly) have a natural, almost religious aversion to the sight of blood therefore stomping and not decapitation was the favored method of execution. It should also be noted that they preferred to ravage women not the countryside you god damn liberal half a fruitcake leafer.

Granted this is not common knowledge but certainly should be known by a man that has been referencing Genghis Khan for forty years from the Winter Soldier hearings up to his debate with President George Bush.

And that's my fucking problem.

Genghis Khan was a winner.

He left the game a champion amassing one of largest empires known to man and it was an empire that without going into an extensive book report was a pretty fucking good one in the sense that it was meritocracy which truly rewarded those that produced and added value to society. We as a nation could learn alot from the The Mongolians of Genghis Khans era.

But....

As is oft the case with winners, his name and legacy have been denigrated by bitter and jealous losers. He is remembered as a savage and his people's good name is used to describe someone with Down's Syndrome.

The Muslims hated him because he practiced religious tolerance and exposed their leaders as the cowardly terrorist frauds that they were on top of the fact that he was the first to topple the Caliphate.

The Europeans hated him because his system of a meritocratic government flew smack in the face of their feudal aristocracy and were jealous of the fact that he succeeded where they failed (see: Caliphate Toppling)

Far Eastern Dynastic Asians hated him for much the same that the Muslims did in that his belief that personal religious freedom and separation of church and state was paramount to a fair government...oh and that he kicked their asses too.

The Soviet Union hated him because of his belief in the power of the individual over the state so they ranshacked his homeland and tried to erase any remembrance of his life to quell any possible civil unrest that his legacy may have inspired.

John Kerry and his ilk hate him because he was a winner, so they besmirch him.

So that now he has become a mispronounced political talking point and his people a Something About Mary punchline ... so we got this kid called Mongo.

Genghis Khan deserves better, better than fucks like the jenga playing John Kerry thats for sure.

However all that pales in comparison to the most recent indignation. They turned his story into a fucking chick flick. Yeah that's right, a full blown chick flick love story (not quite as bad as Rhino's favorite traipsing through the flowery fields fake ass western movie Tombstone) but a chick flick of the Bull Durham caliber none the less.

I don't understand why Hollywood, and I use that term loosely since this was a foreign film, feels the need to package man stuff like baseball gunfights and empire building in a pink bow to sell more tickets. I don't like it one bit I tell ya. Women have their Sex and the Citys let us have our Rambos and Genghis Khans for fucks sake.

But that being said...

I did enjoy Mongol The Movie, what can I say, there was enough action, epic battles, Mrs Khan was hot and a brief side-boob scene to appease me enough to overlook all the goo-goo eyes. When it hits your local theater check it out. While I disagree philosophically with the love storyification of Genghis Khan, I gotta admit it wasnt too bad in the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon hokey love story cool fight scenes way.

While I'm giving recommendations don't forget to see King of Kong, a documentary about competitive old school classic arcade gaming. Now that's pure testosterone right there.

Daniel LaRusso is going to fight? DANIEL LARUSSO IS GOING TO FIGHT!

(that really had nothing to do with anything, just felt like quoting The Karate Kid)

On a side and end note, the movie theater I watched it in was one of these upper west side wannabe art house thee-ATE-durs serving low fat ricotta cheesecake and salmon sandwiches. What the fuck. If it ain't broke don't fix it, in other words dont serve lox at a movie theater fucking big shots. Popcorn and ju-ju beans fuckos, this isn't rocket surgery.

This Week In Hypocrisy

Yes i borrowed the title and the idea from TBR, but at least i'm giving them some credit here. Besides, this is one that they won't do and i think it's important.

“A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said Drew Johnson

I think this Drew Johnson guy is absolutely correct. If you spend your life preaching something to the world you should follow your own commandments.
If you tell everyone they have to sacrifice their own personal comfort for the good of the world and future generations, then you should also sacrifice your own personal comfort.
If you become extremely wealthy and famous and win prestigious awards as a direct result of villifying a certain life style, then you shouldn't live that life style.

Does anyone disagree? Hmmm.....

In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month.

Constitution Makeover

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay have rights under the Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts

Scalia said the nation is "at war with radical Islamists" and that the court's decision "will make the war harder on us. It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed

It almost certainly will. What I don't understand is why this got to the Supreme Court in the first place? How is it that our enemies can even get a hearing before the highest court in OUR land?

And then there's this:

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court made it easier Monday for some foreigners who overstay their visas to seek to remain in the United States legally.

Now I read the story, and I understand why this guy from Nigeria or really anywhere else in the world would want to stay here. I don't blame him, and if it was up to me I would help him stay. However, it's not up to me and it's not supposed to be up to Justice Kennedy or Ginsburg either. The U.S. Constitution is the final arbiter and the constitution says he must go, or at least he has no right to stay.

Have You No Shame Congressman?

Apparently not.

Another Marine was Acquitted of all charges in the Haditha incident. That makes six of the eight charged completely exonerated.

NO apology still from that great supporter of the U.S. military and the right hand man of speaker pelosi.

REP. JOHN MURTHA: … on November 19th, we had an incident in Haditha in Anbar province, where a Marine was killed with an IED. Time magazine reported it, and it's kind of a puzzling report, because they're investigating it right now. Let me tell you what the consequences of this have been.
It's much worse than reported in Time magazine. There was no fire fight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood. And that's what the report is going to tell…

Murtha on HARDBALL with Chris Matthews
Transcript / May 17, 2006
[EXCERPTS:]
MATTHEWS: Mr. Murtha, let me ask you about this accusation that you have come out with today, that U.S. service people fighting in Iraq killed civilians in cold blood. What evidence do you have on that now?
MURTHA: Well, "Time Magazine" ...
MATTHEWS: Was this melee? I mean, was this a case of -- when you say cold blood, Congressman, a lot of people think you're basically saying you have got some civilians sitting in a room or out in a field and they're executed just on purpose...
MURTHA: That's exactly what happened.

THE SITUATION ROOM with Wolf Blitzer Aired May 19, 2006 - 19:00 ET
[EXCERPTS:]
BLITZER: There's an investigation of what happened at Haditha. ...you've suggested this week that there in effect was a massacre. …
MURTHA: Well there was. There's no question about it...
BLITZER: The Marines say they're still investigating. They don't know what happened yet. The pentagon says the same thing. How do you know what happened?
MURTHA: Wolf, you read the "Time" magazine articles. There are pictures, there are photos. You don't have to talk to the military about the proof.

Earth? No just the U.S. in the Balance

Is this the straw? The one that finally breaks the camels back? I'm seriously afraid that it could be.

An unprecedentedly radical government grab for control of the American economy will be debated this week when the Senate considers saving the planet by means of a cap-and-trade system to ration carbon emissions. The plan is co-authored (with John Warner) by Joe Lieberman, an ardent supporter of John McCain, who supports Lieberman's legislation and recently spoke about "the central facts of rising temperatures, rising waters and all the endless troubles that global warming will bring."
