The question about McCain's relationship with Keating is an important one, especially in these trying economic times.
Fortunately for us, that question has already been thoroughly investigated and the answer is that while McCain is a lot of things that I don't like, corrupt is not one of them. McCain was exonerated of any and all wrongdoing.
Now on to that other fella running for President and his past associations that nobody wants to talk about.
The problem is that we've been asking all the wrong questions. It should be obvious why Obama, as an up and comer in the Crook County political machine would want to ingratiate himself with the local power brokers. The answer to that is quite simply money.
But that's not the question we should be asking nor the answer that should concern us. The troubling part of this entire affair is not that Obama was attracted to Ayers, its that the unapologetic terrorist Ayers was attracted to Obama and saw something in the man and the potential candidate that he believed in so strongly that he would open his home to him.
Now I'm not talking "here's a bundt cake welcome to the neighborhood" kind of affair but rather the "me and my fellow bombers think that you'd make an excellent steward for furthering our ideals and our politics" type of fundraiser.
Well it seems that Obama must have made one hell of an impression, that Ayers would name him to chair numerous committees in charge of hundreds of millions of dollars and trust him to guide his political agenda.
Now Im not saying they played Scattergories together on the weekends but this was more than a passing relationship. Lets be clear about this. Obama was hand picked by Ayers time and time again to head up his organizations. This was a working relationship based on a shared ideology.
See my friends, this matter is indeed about judgment but the important question is not necessarily why Obama would associate with the unrepentant terrorist Ayers but rather the question should be what is it exactly that the unrepentant terrorist saw in Obama that he liked so damn much.

The other point that you make in this post that you didn't elaborate on is the fact that the keating affair is an open book.
There were public hearings and investigations. The media asked all the questions they wanted and got answers. There were judges and probes and other politicians involved and it's all a matter of public record.
And what came of it? McCain was completely exonerated of any wrong doing.
Why can't we ask Obama about his past? He won't even release his senior thesis from college which we know was regarding Nuclear dissarmament but that's all we know.
One more thing. The Obama campaign is claiming that he didn't know anything about Ayers when he had that launch party. OK, lets take him at his word on that. However, in 1998 Ayers and his wife did a TV interview on a major network and said "they would do it all again"
He doesn't read the newspapers? He doesn't watch the news? He must have known about that interview and yet he continued to pal around with Ayers and his wife.

So whats Obamas excuse for working with Ayers all those years???
But it was for the kids and books and desks and pencil sharpeners and such his supporters will say. Obama is an education reformer they will cheer.
