Debate Round 2

Let me start by saying this was clearly the most boring debate I have ever seen, and I've seen quite a few. It was even more boring than round 1 which i did a post on titled "Debate Snoozer"

I thought Obama was the clear winner in this one if you can have a winner and a loser in this circumstance. He still didn't say anything, he didn't answer the questions he was asked, he didn't explain how cutting taxes on 95% of working Americans (he changed that to "working" for the first time last night by the way) was going to cure our ills when he's already said he will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire and also raise capital gains taxes. He followed in the footsteps of his VP candidate and practically declared war on our ally (Pakistan). In short, he didn't have a noteworthy positive event all night.

All that being said, neither did McCain. The problem for McCain, and the reason that i give Obama the clear win is that while neither of them said too much that was new or exciting, and they both said some things that were kind of shocking (Obama -Pakistan/McCain to follow) Obama said nothing a lot smoother than McCain said nothing. Early on McCain was so stuttery (is that a word) and he never shut up just repeating the same thing over and over. Obama did the same thing but at least changed up the wording a little bit. Later on when the debate switched to foriegn policy and military use etc. I thought McCain was much stronger than Obama but it was too little too late.

Finally, I must take issue with McCain on a MAJOR point that threw me for a loop. I don't have the exact words or the transcript but he said something about spending another 300 billion dollars to bail out people who are being foreclosed on! What? I hope he wins, because i'm going to stop paying my mortgage and get my house for free.
What ever happened to the republican party being the party of personal responsibility? That was a major turnoff for me and just adds to the list of things i don't like about McCain.

I'll vote for him because i think Obama is dangerous for the country, but when i'm pulling the lever i'm thinking Palin 2012.

Update: McCains 300 billion bailout for irresponsible home buyers

Im going to give Round 2 to McCain barely. He finished strong and in a defensive game with low scoring the fourth quarter matters most.

BUT

To get to the bowl game he needed to run up the score and he didnt.

So...

He may not have lost the Presidency tonight but he certainly didnt win it, which at this point in the game is the same thing.

The fact is that they are both morons.

This dont look good for America either way, but certainly will be much worse with a Barack win.

Then again thank god that democrats are racist so we still might have a shot of avoiding a Obama presidency.

Its a darn shame that debates dont allow tag teaming.....

....FROM THE TOP TURNBUCKLE HERE COMES THE BARRACUDA SUPERFLY SNUKA STYLE!!!!

It was a draw. Both danced, both didn't answers some questions, both dissed each other, both got pissed, both want to do Palin. McCain was stronger on defense and Obama was stronger on the taxes and medicare.

Actually Ill concede the point about the draw.

The word "win" has no place being used in any discussion about last nights debate.

on a purely visceral level, i was alarmed at mccain's wandering around about the stage. my father has alzheimer's. and i will say this not to bash mccain but because i am calling what i see. but mccain's actions clearly reminded me of the manner in which my father meanders around, looking confused, making funny gestures, saying odd things and the like. and some people have mentioned how he referred to obama as "that one." i personally don't think that was meant to demean obama. but i could likely be wrong. but i honestly think mccain, due to his extreme anxiety, temporarily forgot obama's name. again, this is what happens to my father, particularly when he is anxious. i can't tell you how many times, when he has been sitting with my brother and sisters and i, he has pointed to one or the other of us, and referred to us as, "that one."

and i totally agree on the bailout for people whose homes have lost value. totally ridiculous. i think it's not that he's necessarily trying to reward irresponsible home buyers. i think this would be meant for buyers in relatively good standing credit-wise. i am a very responsible home buyer, but the value of my home has gone down more than 1/3 in the past year and i owe significantly more on my mortgage the market value of my home. but at the same time, i believe i bought at the height of the bubble, and that's just how it worked out and i'll deal with that over time. hopefully the market will come back.

bottom line is that the government continues to subsidize homeowners in that we can take significant tax deduction for mortgage interest on our taxes. so even if you got burned a little in the market in terms of value, you still have a significant tax break and while i'd love to refinance my mortgage for the current value, i don't want to pay for everyone else to do it because the housing market, in certain parts of the country at least, may actually come back. and for people with 30-year mortgates, that's extremely likely.

Alzheimer's? What?

Anita, i don't think Mac is losing it yet, but then again who knows.

with regard to the housing bailout, i don't think they're talking about helping out responsible homeowners like you and me. I think they're talking about bailing out the idiots.

It's a populist move that could be the death of the mccain campaign. Conservatives around the country have to be as dismayed as myself at hearing that and the last time they felt that way was 2 years ago and they stayed home. I hope it doesn't happen again.
